Keith Urban Soars High with New Album, ‘High’

A Dive into the Inspiration Behind the Title

Country music superstar Keith Urban is ready to take us on a musical journey with his highly anticipated album, “High.” This latest offering marks Urban’s first release since “The Speed of Now Part 1” in 2020.

The title of the album, “High,” holds a special significance for Urban. It embodies the various states of euphoria and exhilaration that life has to offer. “What makes you ‘high’ can mean whatever you want it to mean,” explains Urban. “It might be physical, spiritual, herbal, meditative, chemical, or musical, but it’s definitely a place of utopia.”

For Urban, experiencing a “high” often stems from the love and support of his family and friends. Music, particularly performing live, also holds a special place in his heart. “Every night I get a chance to bring an energy and a release to people,” he says.

The Evolution of ‘High’

Creating “High” wasn’t without its challenges. Urban initially started working on a different album in 2022, but the hectic schedule of his tour made it difficult to maintain a cohesive sound. “The songs didn’t work well together,” he says. “I learned that what I thought was a framework to create within, turned out to be musically limiting.”

Undeterred, Urban went back to the drawing board and came up with “High.” The result is an eclectic collection of tracks that showcase Urban’s unique blend of country, rock, and pop influences.

A Journey through Sound

The album opens with the energetic “Go Home W U,” featuring singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson. This vibrant track sets the tone for the rest of the album, which features a mix of upbeat anthems and introspective ballads.

“Laughin’ All The Way To The Drank” is a playful and humorous ode to letting go and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. “Wildside,” inspired by the character played by Joan Cusack in “School of Rock,” is a fun and infectious anthem about a prim and proper woman who lets loose after a few tequilas.

On the more reflective side, “Straight Line” delves into the complexities of relationships, while “Messed Up As Me” is a heartfelt and honest exploration of human imperfections.

Live and in Las Vegas

With the release of “High,” Urban is set to embark on a summer full of live performances. He has scheduled festival dates and will also kick off a 10-date residency at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas in October, with additional dates planned for February 2025.

Throughout his career, Urban has consistently proven himself as one of the most captivating live performers in the music industry. His energetic stage presence and impeccable musicianship make every concert an unforgettable experience.

A Musical High for Fans

Keith Urban’s “High” is an album that promises to uplift, inspire, and entertain. With its diverse range of tracks and Urban’s signature blend of musical styles, this album is sure to resonate with fans old and new. As Urban himself says, “I hope these songs bring you joy, levity, some new understanding, energy, and escape!”
